Mudge Island Wharf

There is no ferry service or bridge to Mudge Island so its 50 or so residents use this landing on Gabriola to get to the rest of the world when they need to.

Glade

It's dry but there's still plenty of green on the island. This is a place my wife and I call The Enchanted Forest and it's on our daily walk to the Post.

Need Some Rain

Harsh mid-day sun is usually the least attractive light for photography but it was perfect for this shot of a parched meadow near my house. The thin mossy soil is pulling apart from the rock base.

Rainy Day At Silva Bay

Riding shotgun in a Tofino Air float plane. Like Droplets, I wish this one was taken recently but no. It's from late May.

No Fires

We haven't had rain for weeks now and the No Fires signs are up all over the island. Everyone has their fingers crossed...

Still Water

Water is a precious resource everywhere but particularly on islands like Gabriola. I have quite a few images relating to that so H2O (or the lack thereof) will be the theme here at GDP for the next few days.

Odd Shots Monday > 6 Eyeballs

OK folks, I'm participating for the first time in something called Odd Shots Monday. You can read about it here but in a nutshell, it's a forum for photos that don't quite fit into any particular category or cubbyhole.

This looks like a set-up but it isn't. I found this array of books just exactly as you see it on the floor of my wife's office. What are the odds?

Tomorrow, back to our regularly scheduled program...

Catnip

This is our neighbour's kitty Calvin. He got his picture in the paper last week and the celebrity must've gone to his head because he went on a catnip binge which resulted in this near catatonic pose. Now he's international via the internet!

Local Produce

The 100 Mile Diet is getting a lot of press these days and rightfully so. Since Gabriola is only 8 miles long by 2 miles wide, I guess we're working on the 10 Mile Diet. These beautiful Walla Walla onions were grown right down the road and we bought them directly from the folks who grew them. Last night as we were finishing up our dinner, we realized that except for the butter, everything we'd just eaten had come from right here on the island.

Here's the MV Quinsam pulling in from Nanaimo. It's only a 20 minute ride but a world apart.

Missing Foot

This shoe is missing it's foot, last seen on the North Road. It's pink. The shoe that is. I have no idea what colour the foot is/was. Maybe green by now. Who can solve this mystery? Maybe Bill Miner will write a radio play about it...
